i don't want to talk about the bible again to convince somebody, but regarding this question, it's all i can deal with. in my view, animals are divine creatures too. we don't have the right to do what "we" are doing right now when it comes to food production and animal treatment in general. so yes, i respect animals and i know that apes are very intelligent and because of their body shape and behaviour it might seem that they have the same heritage but in the end, an animal is an animal to me. if you say they are brothers and sisters it's ok. and i think it's even inspiring because we have to treat them right but to me they are animals. nothing more or less. even when some people talk about their pets, they say that they are just like a person to them. so they should be treated with the same respect as human beings.
to me, my love for animals ends with that imagination. a human being shares the same destiny, the same mission, the same blood as a enemy, a colleague, a friend or a girlfirend or family member with me but an animal is just a creature that shares the same natural sources on earth as we. i'm a vegan. but IF i could only survive by eating an animal i would do so. i think that's ok. i think it's a fitting example. once there was this plane crash and the survivors had to eat parts of the corps of the persons who were killed during the crash. i don't know if that's a sin or something questionable but to me it's definitely something impure. it's a whole different case. so in my view, a human being and an animal are two different things.
