i had to look that one up. It signifies a "non-player character" and is apparently used by the kind of guys who sit around in their underpants playing video games in the basement all day and all night (consider the source).
Anyway, it just another of the cliches used to dismiss people with opinions that differ from one own. Apparently it's a favorite of those who see the world as a binary system of conservatives and liberals, and can't comprehend those who have transcended such stereotypes.
