8 This is accurate, the tests they use, uses tiny dna or rna processes by which new copies are made. The new positive strands become something large enough to identify. This is done in cycles. Each cycle doubles the amount of genetic material. The number of cycles it takes to identify something is known as the CT value or cycle threshold. The higher the CT value the less likely you are to be detecting anything significant. Using a high CT value to test for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 will result in FALSE positive results. In most instances, the distinction between background noise and actual presence of the virus is difficult to be certain of.
