In 1973 His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I invited the president of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III to visit Addis Ababa on an official state visit, By 1974 both Selassie and Makarios were toppled. Also in 1973, Henry Kissinger became Secretary of State for the United States. I don't want to live in the past but it is a shame to not learn from history. Are these events relevant today?

It is interesting to note that the coup against His Beatitude Makarios came first, in July, with His Imperial Majesty being overthrown in September...
