Ina ancient Africa marriage of man & wombman is also de marriage of their famillies. De role of ceremony is to signify de unification of de two famillies & report new family members to ancestors.

For I being with the 'right' Queen is more important than a piece of paper saying that I and I are a couple. There are so many divorces nowadays, and the marriage procedure didn't help them at all.
