Highlighting one verse and sensationalizing it in an attempt and as an excuse to 'Burn JC and Burn bible' is a simple Gary Mason tactic used by mainstream talking heads to try to 'debunk' an overall topic... The I says: 'I'm not rejecting the great message' -- Praises Is the I accepting with clear conscious? I agree that Haile Selassie does not beat prisoners of war or claim them as his property. I also say fire to this action described within the highlighted verse. I see it, weigh it, and decide for Iself if I want to perpetuate it.. This does not mean that I want it omitted.. A history forgotten is a history repeated.. And many times still today, prisoners are beaten and disrespected as 'less-than-human'.. I do not condone this action now just as I do not condone and apply it when it happened previously Further -- Does a violent criminal that willfully trespasses basic and universal moral ideals deserve a pleasant treatment? Peace loving and non-violent Hindu culture supports the death penalty.. Ending the demonic criminals life so that that person can no longer degrade their own soul by further trespassing...

I hear you. This verse is in the Law section though if it was just a verse about the history of the times maybe it should be replaced to another part or mentioned of in other parts (as it is already) but definately omitted as a law! A new law must outlaw slavery in all forms! The bible is full of many messages. There are many I agree with but I started this thread because of the COMMON practice of openly and blindly accepting ALL messages of the Bible as though it is all one as though rejecting one idea will make the next less valid. It is this approach Whe need fire. You use your discern when you read Kingman honestly your way is not the problem but unfortunately is not the common way of seeing things. I'm glad we can agree on the content of the verse somewhat Right now we focus on that one verse yes and on the surface that looks like we may have negative intention from the first place to sensationalise one verse as you say. But this thread is among the lengthiest of all on this website and is full of other verses and other messages which are at LEAST questionable For all the time you have spent praising the Bible. I honestly believe - especially for we in the West - an equally significant amount of time should then be spent to undue and reveal the messages which have been distorted with misinterpretation and the messages which today are just..... Wrong.

Seen GARVEYS AFRICA. Blindly following ANYTHING is deserving a mighty FIRE!! Absolutely -- Praises. As I previously say: 'I see it, weigh it, and decide for Iself if I want to perpetuate it..' I agree that this verse being in the Law section is very troubling indeed. Yet when I study the Bible [specifically H.I.M revised Amharic] I do not question the Words or Order of verses.. I work with the idea that it is I that is not seated in the proper knowledge when confusion or rejection arises.. I am trying vehemently to see that 'To Burn' is not rejection of the overall message.. Yes, there are many many individual messages [some positive and some negative] and at the same time ONE theme and message of Love and improvement.. What I get from the 'Great Message' of the Bible is: Know Iself, Love Iself, Know and Love thy Neighbor the same.. Treat others how I would like to be treated.. This discussion is needed, as it is one of the longest threads on this site. I appreciate the critical questioning and the other ways of achieving righteous heights without the Bible.

but this part of the bible is dealing with a whole different era. it tells about punishment that is delivered from one human being to another. it doesn't say that god declares it as a right thing. god is the one who judges in the end. of course you must have a little faith and let god be god as a bible reader. so this doesn't say that god is evil and the bible is questionable to me. it's all about one conclusion. let people believe but don't let them get fanatic.

Let's be clear and not let religious dogma cloud logic. This part of the Bible is dealing with and revealing the Law. This is the Hebrew Law. Are you familiar with the term Law of Moses? It seems your suggesting the laws mentioned within the Pentateuch are simply just utterances of the local government law at the time or just how it was in that society. The bible will tell you that this cannot be the case as there was no government no law no society at this time other than that of Jacob. This is the time when the Hebrews were making their own government with their God. The laws are between them and their God. Nobody else to place blame
