??? Straight up??? Both of you are more intelligent than this..... I never read 'Thou shall do this'. This highlighted happening is not an instruction. If it is so, it would clearly be stated as 'thou shall do this'.. This verse is simply highlighting a time where these types of actions took place. Recorded so that people in later times can look at this and decide for themselves if they want to repeat and perpetuate this bloody history. A living and Eternal document recording the history of the planet is not to say that everything written is a direct instruction.. You are using a simple Gary Mason tactic to distract from the Overall 'Great Message' -- Highlight one small aspect and sensationalize it to distract from the overall topic.... C'mon now.... Beat your slave to near death with a rod! as long as he has some life left in him this is not punishable whereas if he had died is punishable. Before you insult my intelligence please consider the relationship between the First five books and Hebrew LAW. The chapters starts off "These are the laws you are to set before them" Is this not the word of God? or is it only Gods word and is the law only to be followed when it suits you?

This is very difficult to get around. This isn't a book about how things were at a particular time this isn't anthropology or social history I am reading the LAW section of the Bible in reference to the instruction direct from God .......as the Hebrews began their new life in exodus Free from the so call wickedness of Egypt. Tell me this doesn't need to be cut chopped cropped and deleted. I wouldn't want my babies reading this thinking God set it so There is no salvation for humanity with that form of doctrine and it needs to be addressed and stated CLEARLY our position on this as Rastafari.

That IS one of the 613 COMMANDMENTS or LAWS of which the 10 or only a small portion of They werent written down for later generations they were written for the people who followed and heard Moses who said his LAWS came from the God of their fathers to be followed throughout their generationS

Because if he went chopping and deleting from the Septuagint and the accepted Cannon then it wouldn't be a Bible would it. Forget what was published under his name READ that scripture. Pause. And honestly with any measure of ego present in the essence of debate and reasoning ASIDE..... Do you think Haile Selassie is in favour of "beating SLAVES with a ROD male or female until near death" and not req punishment as they are human property? You think he supported this?

Ok I see you. So that commandment or law or instruction was only specific to the time. To use that logic would mean: 1) Slavery at one time was acceptable in the eyes of God 2) Violance toward your slave was acceptable in the eyes of God also at one time And importantly: 3) We MUST then also time-adjust the other commandments and bible lessons in relation to social makeup at that time. This could potentially cripple the rest of the book. We could say almost everything was 'ahh that's how they just did things back then' It can't work. The only other form of logic to explain how this could be present on the word of God - one which I follow - is that these are the SIMPLE thoughts of men. We have to use our brains to know what to hold onto what to develop and what to dash weh!!!

Slavery then is comparable today as prisoner of war. Time adjust the commandments? The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed. The New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. Reject the 'Great Message' of the Bible and you are rejecting direct teachings of H.I.M
