The way I look at it, MLK and similar figures, notably Ghandi and Mandela, earned the freedom of their people through non-violence, but without the threat of violence could not secure that freedom. I find it unlikely that their pacifism would have affected anything if no one showed up with weapons. I credit the militant groups for these peace activists being able to accomplish anything at all.

CB, I think you're underestimating the awesome influence and Power of Jah RastafarI and His Love. After all, He IS the Emperor of All Creation. Haile Selassie I has been a very vocal proponent of a lasting world peace as well as a strong advocate for the UN Charter which outlaws not only the unilateral use of force by a nation (except for self-defense) but even the threat of using such unilateral force.
