Sistren although I agree with your point that rasta shouldn't need a spokesperson, it doesn't mean that we as rastas shouldn't try to inform others about Rastafari. Few people know what rasta is and there are many negative images of Rastafari in the world. Many consider us to be lazy do-nothings who would rather lie about all day and smoke a bit of herb than do an honest days work and we have a duty to challenge that veiw. I don't think the original question was whether it was right for a black or white man to act as a spokesperson for the most high, rather that whether it was right for a white or black man to act as spokesperson for rastafari as a group. That is at least how I interpreted the question.

I ovastand your point and position.

I still contend that for me, being rasta is about being who I am from creation, not worrying about image, stereotype, or anything of that nature.

Most of the people who view us in that negative light will not accept a positive perception in that their ignorance is bliss and stereotyping people affords them the fantasy of superiority.

Nesta once said, "I've been rasta from ever since". There is no image to convert to, so in essence the creator made us the way we are and it would be fruitless to redifine ourselves as a group to appease those who are blissfully ignorant.

As far as informative measures, I believe that we show who and what we are by the way we live. The only way for them to know that we not bud smoking lethargic embasils is to spend time with us and see it for themselves. The I comes before the realization that I am rasta in most cases. If it were reversed, too few people would ever get to know the I.

Whatcha think?

There is wisdom in your words Sistren.

And I overstand your point on people who veiw rastas in a negative light but I personally would rather try and fail to change their veiw than accept their ignorance and not try. Of course this is just my personal veiw.
And you make a very good point about people coming to know what rastas stand for through knowing individual rastas. The vast majority of I friends are not Rastafari and I would like to think that they have gained a better overstanding of rastafari through knowing I, even though they may joke about it sometimes. :P

Blessings

I learned a long time ago to not waste too much time on people who refuse to learn from His Imperial Majesty Jah RasTafarI Haile Selassie I.

The reason why RasTafarI is for all Jah Righteous people, no matter where they are from, is because of RasTafarI Haile Selassie I.

When RasTafarI people saw the Example and Teachings of Haile Selassie I, they filtered out the parts of the teachings of others that were contrary to Selassie I, and kept the parts that were One with Haile Selassie I.

This is Judgement Time, and RasTafarI people are performing the works of the Seven Seals. That distinguishes who is or is not RasTafarI, not the colour of their skin.

RasTafarI is a New Race to the world, but is the oldest Race of all. One.

As I God says,

When I spoke at Geneva in 1936, there was no precedent for a head of state addressing the League of Nations. I am neither the first, nor will I be the last head of state to address the United Nations, but only I have addressed both the League and this Organization in this capacity.

The problems which confront us today are, equally, unprecedented. They have no counterparts in human experience. Men search the pages of history for solutions, for precedents, but there are none.

This, then, is the ultimate challenge. Where are we to look for our survival, for the answers to the questions which have never before been posed?

We must look, first, to Almighty God, Who has raised man above the animals and endowed him with intelligence and reason. We must put our faith in Him, that He will not desert us or permit us to destroy humanity which He created in His image.

And we must look into ourselves, into the depth of our souls. We must become something we have never been and for which our education and experience and environment have ill-prepared us. We must become bigger than we have been: more courageous, greater in spirit, larger in outlook. We must become members of a new race, overcoming petty prejudice, owing our ultimate allegiance not to nations but to our fellow men within the human community.

I think all who truly take Rastafari as their saviour should feel free to tell the world what they believe.

I think babylon pays reggae promoters and the media to spread misinformation about Rastafari. On youtube there is a video of a man who said he worked for the illuminati in the 1970s and his job was to give millions of dollars to promote Christian rock in order to make rock and roll music acceptable to the Christians in the US so babylon could influence Christian children through music. He said he left the illuminati because he became a Christian and wanted no part of them because of the wickedness involved. Look up "illuminati" and you'll probably fine it on you tube.

I've noticed that many of the negative ideas about Rastafari come from media that are afraid to say that His Majesty is Jesus Christ and always briefly mention something about "rastas" and then show a bunch of pictures of herb and Jamaicans saying "Jah mon." Time Magazine said Rastafarians believe Haile Selassie is "a" god, like we are polytheists. Websters dictionary says that a Rastafarian believes that His Majesty is "a saviour," not "the saviour"

I think it is important to remember that most people dont hate Rastafari, but they've only heard babylons version of the story. Thinking of it that way always helps me when I hear people saying false things about Rastafari.

Bless all those who spread the teachings of His Majesty. I think it is necessary that we all do our part to fight babylon's misinformation.

If your calling is to teach and lead by example, then be it so, it is a good thing, but as ArkI stated it is judgement time so InI must not get distracted from what revelation has told us. However, I find that along this there is still time to find the breddas and sistas that can be informed and can be lead from the darkness. So while trodding the way, InI will continue to "pick up" bredren and sistren along the way.
