Blessed Heart of Sabbath, I was surprised to see that they made a movie called "Last King of Scotland". To be honest I don't know too much about him, I was wondering but I will spend this sabbath learning. I was just curious if anyone saw this movie and if it is real i-sidering hollywood made the film?
Give thanx

I just wrote a long post about the movie but had to delete it after realizing that i was spoiling the film for you. Watch it and then ini can discuss it. Just dont expect to see an exploration of Amins life from his rise to his downfall in its entirety. like the i say, it is hollywood

respect prophecy,

let me recommend that you get the dvd (i don't know if it is still in the theater anyhow). on the dvd there are added materials where they discuss him that was not shown at the movies. and they are important additions which in a way contradict how he is portrayed in the movie. we actually had a girl over our house just after seeing the movie who was from uganda. she had seen the movie twice at the theaters and was going to get the dvd after we spoke. it was intersting to speak with her because her knowledge of the man came through her elders who grew up under him. being only in her early 20's she did not have first hand experiences --- so to speak.

you could also get the book -- which i'm sure would have more info than the movie.

others? from my perspective i feel mandela is huge as is a man by the name of steven biko ---for biko there is a movie called Cry Freedom or a book called Biko by donald woods. biko is just one of many who kept the fight going in south africa while mandela was in prison. you may also like to look into jomo kenyata (check my spelling) a major figure in kenya's history.

respect

blessed, I have a question. I am reading on Idi Amin and he was responsible for death of Afrikans, so why do many rastas flash his picture?I don't know hardly anything about him, am reading now. But, I see his picture on many myspace pages. So, if ones and ones want to share anything I apprecilove it. I am going to watch the movie to get some info. What is his role in Rastafari? I was told that he is now part of the trinity is that true?
Give thanx for ur patience and look forward to ur knowledge of Mr. Amin.

respect,

i don't know about rastas flashing hhis picture, but i can tell you this from talking to the girl from uganda ---- her family members were not going to flash his picture ---- but in every war there is two sides and one will like or love and the other will dislike or hate.

for example; in my wife's country of zimbabwe the preseident robert mugabe is a hero to some and a vilian who has hurt and murdered his own.

even here in the u.s. half the country thinks bush is great and the other half is counting down the days till he is gone.

peace

Yes, that's why the same question could be, why are some Rasta and many in the african diaspora hailing Rober Mugabe when he is the one who saves Mengistu Haile Miriam from being dilivered to international justice.
Maybe one possible answer is that people often only see what they want to see.

i do not know any books on Amin and i too would be interested in finding some books on him.
I am interested as well on the BoboShanti Mansion views on the man, preferably from the Bobo idren . It is only the Bobo idren that i hear sometimes refer to one another as "dada", and it seems to be a term of respect and endearment, so im curious, i am just assuming that "dada" refers to Amin. Even if all the evil things that are said about him are false, its hard for i to think that a man who fought on the side of the British against the MauMau warriors deserves my respect in any form. But ,ofcourse, i am just speaking from the little that i know of Amin, so idk i could be wrong i suppose
Like i said Empress Prophecy, i do not know of any books right now but there was a post made time ago from the idren, "Rock", perhaps it might help a bit for the time being

sorry i dont know how to do the direct link thing
