The U.S. "strategy" for illegally overthrowing the constitutional government of Venezuela instead of respecting America's legal obligations under the UN Charter and the rights of the People of Venezuela to resolve their own political conflicts without foreign interference has produced nothing but death and suffering in the Bolivarian Republic. Now, over a million community militia members throughout the nation are engaged in preparedness drills out of apprehensions that the U.S. will resort to the kind of unprovoked military aggression for which it is infamous. So add to the struggles that Venezuelans are already facing to overcome the consequences of ruthless U.S. economic warfare, U.S.-imposed terror in the form of uncertainty as to whether the rabid beast will strike. Make no mistake: What the Trump administration's gangster thugs are engaged in is the very definition of TERRORISM.

Whether you love the Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV) and the current president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, or despise them, it matters not one iota when it comes to the rights of the Venezuelan People to exercise independence and self-determination with respect to resolving their own internal political affairs. There aren't a lot of things that you can get 90% of Venezuelans to agree upon, but one of them is that they DON'T WANT OR NEED need any interference by the U.S. government in their internal affairs. Whether they're right wing or left wing, Chavista or not, Venezuelans (with the exception of a tiny minority of U.S. stooges) REJECT U.S. imperialism and do not want to become a U.S. puppet state again.

What the U.S. is engaged in down in Venezuela is pure gangsterism. In so many respects, it's like a re-run of Nicaragua in the 80s which is why it infuriates me so much -- the U.S. pretending to give a rat's ass about democracy or "freedom". You don't see much concern about those values in close ally Saudi Arabia, do you?

It's just mind-boggling to listen to CRIMINALS Bolton and Pomeo speak publicly with such bravado about U.S. foreign policy which flaunts the law.

Every major action that the U.S. government has taken toward Venezuela is PATENTLY ILLEGAL under well-recognized international laws (to which the U.S. has committed itself) including the UN Charter:

--Issuing unilateral economic sanctions,
--blocking international financial and commercial transactions of the Venezuelan government,
--openly promoting a violent coup and "regime change",
--illegally stealing and giving away assets belonging to the Venezuelan people
-- threatening unilateral military intervention, etc.

These are all flagrant and extremely serious violations of international law, not just infractions of technicalities. They violate the core purpose of the UN Charter and threaten international peace.

In a sane world, guys like Bolton and Abrams would be wearing shackles and orange jumpsuits, not serving as powerful officials of the U.S. government.

The Trump regime’s plot to topple Venezuela’s legitimate government is the latest example of what the scourge of imperialism is all about — a wannbe global dictatorship threatening everyone everywhere.

May the People of Venezuela continue to experience freedom from America the Babylon's insatiable thirst for wars of aggression and human bloodshed!

America the Babylon turns its back on God who has provided to it bounty and protection throughout its history. This turn away from God and His Law is willful and arrogant disobedience by America the Babylon, persisted in despite having had numerous opportunities to mend its ways. The Bible is very clear on what the consequences for America the Babylon will be.

If you are sincere in your call for blessing, then your efforts should be well spent seeking the path of Righteousness rather that extolling the virtues of wickedness.

Hemphill, you place yourself in league with the likes of known past and currently practicing war criminals like John Bolton and Elliot Abrams, and yet you fail to recognize that you’re in league with the devil's own minions. Talk about being lost...

Venezuela: Maduro Denies Military Abandoned Him, Vows to Resist ‘Gringo Empire’

Venezuela’s socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro denied that he had lost control of the military and vowed to use all his power to crush legitimate President Juan Guaidó in his first public address since the latter called for a nationwide uprising on Tuesday.

“We have been facing various modes of aggression and coups d’etat like has never happened before in the history of Venezuela,” Maduro declared, in a speech flanked by his top military commanders. He blamed “the Venezuelan far right, the Colombian oligarchy from Bogotá, and American imperialism” for Guaidó’s move

Guaidó became interim president of Venezuela in January after Maduro claimed the position despite not being democratically elected. Maduro has rejected the legislature’s appointment of Guaidó, refused to leave the presidential palace, and has largely maintained control of the military through his senior henchmen, making it impossible for Guaidó to exercise his power as commander in chief.

Guaidó announced on Tuesday that he had acquired control of a critical mass of the military, but he needed civilians to support the anti-Maduro troops against their superiors. Maduro rejected the call as a “coup” despite his lack of legitimacy in office.

“Today is a good day to contrast the Venezuela of peace, of tranquility, of prosperity, of unity that all Venezuelans aspire to with the Venezuela of violence, of violating political rights, of the Constitution, the Venezuela of shooting firearms, of violence [again], the Venezuela submitted to the Colombian oligarchy and the gringo empire,” Maduro railed.

The dictator then denied that the legitimate president had successfully taken over the La Carlota airbase where he delivered his address early Tuesday and insisted that he maintained control of the military, claiming that the soldiers shown in footage on the ground in Caracas urging Maduro to leave were “deceived” into congregating with protesters and that they soon realized their error and turned on the crowd. He then suggested, however, that the opposition had taken control of military firearms and vehicles and used them to cause a “tragedy” on Caracas’ main highway. Soldiers loyal to Maduro were caught on camera Tuesday running over protesters with an armored vehicle, which Maduro did not address.

Maduro also did not explain where the photos, taken by several major news agencies and distributed worldwide, of protesters rallying at La Carlota Tuesday came from if the reports that they had done so were false.

The few soldiers he admitted had turned on him would face severe punishment, Maduro vowed.

“I have spoken to the attorney general. I have chosen three prosecutors who will interrogate all people involved and they will launch criminal prosecutions for the serious crimes that have been committed against the constitution, the rule of law and the right to peace,” Maduro said. “This will not go unpunished.”

In a video published late Tuesday, Guaidó urged Venezuelans not to let Maduro discourage them.

Juan Guaidó
Mañana continuamos con la ejecución de la #OperaciónLibertad. Iniciamos la fase final y estaremos de forma sostenida en las calles hasta lograr el cese de la usurpación.

“What the regime said, that they retain power over the armed forces, is false,” Guaidó said. “Maduro does not have the backing or the respect of the armed forces, much less the Venezuelan people, because he doesn’t protect anyone, because he doesn’t solve problems, he doesn’t offer solutions.”

Guaidó urged Venezuelans to remain on the streets protesting “to recover our dignity, to rescue our people, our families.” He said the current protest would last until Maduro left the presidential palace for good.

Speaking to the anti-socialist newspaper El Nacional on Tuesday, several protesters who heeded Guaidó’s call said they were prepared to continue on the streets indefinitely.

“I am here for freedom. I want a better Venezuela, where I can go to a market and have a worthy salary to buy the products I want,” Patricia Petit, a mother who had seen her daughter flee the country, told El Nacional.

Estrella López, the sister of a political prisoner, told the newspaper she would stay on the street “all the time necessary because Maduro needs to leave here. This has to end."

Responsibility for the continuing crisis squarely rests on Maduro, Cuba, Russia, and to some extent China. The Pentagon has estimated as many as 20,000 Cuban forces are supporting the Maduro regime. An unknown number of Russian military personnel and mercenaries are also believed to be in Venezuela, with 100 special advisers flying in recently.

Not sure where you came across that pack of lies, but in reality (far from the cartoon caricature of a "dictator" painted by the White House and the lackey corporate media in order to create a stereotype) Nicolas Maduro has been described as a "consensus-builder" who prefers to make decisions and govern with the advice & concurrence of the PSUV stakeholders and as much of the opposition as possible even if that means compromise. [Bear in mind that Washington has directed its "Opposition" puppets NOT to engage in dialogue with the constitutional government of Venezuela or seek any compromises with it. Washington isn't interested in any political solutions or democratic processes -- it's playing for absolute power and absolute subjugation of Venezuela as a U.S. vassal state. That mean no compromises and the elimination of PSUV from the government.] If you look at how Venezuela is actually governed and not the cornball demonization always used as a pretext for U.S. imperial regime change operations, you'll see that it is consistent with that characterization of Maduro's consensus-building style and demeanor.

In contrast to Maduro, Hugo Chavez was much more of strongly decisive & independent leader. Unfortunately, Washington's attempts to demonize Chavez as a "dictator" also fell apart, in his case due to his enormous popularity across the political spectrum (even the right wing had to concede his very real charisma and popularity) and his posthumous status as a national hero.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. Despite the tendency of Washington and it fans to treat Latin Americans like lesser human beings who do not share the same rights as norteamericanos and whose institutions are insignificant; just as the U.S. Supreme Court is the final arbiter for interpretations of the U.S. Constitution, the Venezuelan Supreme Tribunal of Justice is the final arbiter for interpretations of the Venezuelan Constitution (not John Bolton or Mike Pompeo). Per the rulings of the Supreme Tribunal, Nicolas Maduro is the constitutional president of Venezuela and that can not be undone by extraterritorial re-interpretation of Venezuela's Constitution. Furthermore, the Venezuelan court has barred Jaun Guaido from holding public office because of his conduct. (Of course, he's a criminal being directed by foreign crime bosses so why should law matter to him?)

Ya know Hemphill, you've got this complete Alice-in-Wonderland fantasy framework erected in your mind about the situation in Venezuela which in no way reflects the reality there or the sentiments of the broad spectrum of Venezuelan society. What I've posted in this thread attempts to portray for you the real situation. You don't seem to even comprehend the blend of socialist/capitalist doctrine as practiced in real life nor can you seem to grasp that nothing is as black and white as you portray it to be. You treat this whole affair as if the Venezuelans aren't real people with real lives and real minds of their own. That's a common fallacy of self-absorbed Americans in general, but you are especially egregious about it.
I guess it's a lot to ask anyone who only knows what the American media tells them and has never experienced living in Latin America (e.g., learning its history, poetry, language, music and art, dance, political discourse, socioeconomic stratification, racism and so forth) to relate to the actual sentiments and priorities of the Venezuelan people. Your whole perspective is literally and figuratively thousands of miles from their reality.

Found throughout the entire country are community militias to defend the revolution. These are comprised of thousands of volunteer units comprised of ordinary citizens of all ages and backgrounds. All of them have access to arms and are prepared to do what is necessary to keep the country from being returned to the "bad ole days" of opulent rule by a tiny minority (the ultra-wealthy families) who hoarded the nation's wealth, led flamboyant lifestyles and let the poor (90%+ of the population) claw their way through life without the most basically adequate housing, health care, education or nutrition. Oh sure, these militias are no match for smart bombs and U.S. special forces, but if tested they have something that those U.S special forces will never have: The noble cause of defending their own families, communities, and independent nation against professional/mercenary thieves and murderers.
