The sabbath was changed from Saturday (from Saturn) by the Roman Church owing to the introduction of the mythological figure Satan (also from Saturn). It is interesting that Islam chooses Friday (or Freya day) as there day of rest, Freya being the equivalent of Venus. In Greek Friday is Paraskivi (Π;α;ρ;α;σ;κ;ε;υ;ή;) which means "to prepare". Friday is named for its liturgical significance as the day of preparation before Sabbath, which was inherited by Greek Christian Orthodox culture from Jewish practices. The Sabbath in Greek, Saturday (Savvato, Σ;ά;β;β;α;τ;ο;) is not the same as the Lord's day, Sunday (Kyriaki, Κ;υ;ρ;ι;α;κ;ή;).The word for Friday in most Romance languages is derived from Latin dies Veneris or "day of Venus" (a translation of Greek Aphrodī;́;tē;s hē;méra, Ἀ;φ;ρ;ο;δ;ῑ;́;τ;η;ς; Ἡ;μ;έ;ρ;α;), such as vendredi in French, venres in Galician, divendres in Catalan, vennari in Corsican, venerdě in Italian, vineri in Romanian, and viernes in Spanish and influencing the Filipino biyernes or byernes, and the Chamorro betnes. This is also reflected in the p-Celtic Welsh language as Gwener.
