I am looking for resources on traditional African medicine, with an emphasis on herbalism. Does anyone have any resources they recommend, such as websites, books, journals/magazines, etc...?

I'm also curious about herbal medicine that has historically been used by Black people in the Americas and/or the Caribbean.

Thanks in advance

One Black Love

Ashe

I am no expert on specifically African Herbalism, so unfortunately I cannot recommend you any specific websites or information about it.

I just thought I would mention my (limited) knowledge on Aloes. I grow Aloe Vera, Aloe arborescens and Aloe Ferox, all of which are from SA I think.

Aloe Vera is best for the skin, slicing open a leaf and rubbing on the skin. Also, using it internally in the form of the inner gel. It is said to be the most powerful cleansing agent known to man; ie many plants are said to be good for different things, Aloe's forte seems to be cleansing and skin.

The Aloe arborescens is also great for internal use, a powerful cleanser. I think it is a weed in SA.

This man is famous for using it as part of his cancer protocol.

The Aloe ferox is more like a tree Aloe. The leaves produce many times more bitter sap than the other Aloes and it is the bitter sap which is the laxative. Thus, they are grown for harvesting their bitter saps to use as internal cleansers. Also great on the skin, but I prefer Aloe vera due to it growing much quicker.

Those are the 3 main medicinal Aloes in Africa, I think. Perhaps there might be more edible ones, but these are the most well known medicinal ones.

One of my Aloes;

I'm sorry I can't tell you more about African herbalism in general. I just thought the Aloes were worth mentioning since they are African, and they are my greatest interest.

All the best,

Joe

African herbalism is de study & use of herbs through Black Spirituality for nutrition, healing, influence weapons & defence. African herbalists work hand in hand with spiritual beings to solve health & social problems faced by fellow people. Spiritual beings such as ancestors help dem to make powerful herbal concoctions. Deh are some srtange diseases ina Africa dat cannot be cured by orthodox doctors but can be cured by African herbalist. Many African leaders, preachers, e.t.c rely on herbalists

i think id do so too. maybe thats one good thing african rastas have shown me in here.

a couple of month ago before ive joined this forum i was different. if you would have asked me back then whats my opinion on those "special diseases" i probably would have said something like "who god bless, no man curse. some people want to explain things the easy way because they dont have the chance to overstand it medical wise or some people just want to scare you."

but know i dont see the bible how the church wants us to see it. i dont dont see the bible like ive used to see it. i say nothing against the biblical prophets but i dont trust every teaching of the bible itself.
and beyond that i just believe its true. we are spiritual creatures and some of us have lost the connection to nature and to themselfs. we need to listen to our inner voice.

respect african herbalist people. i dont mess with those african teachings. babylon medicine is mostly poison anyways. big up

In de second world war African herbalists were also used by de Black Soldiers who wen't to fight in de white man war. De downside of African herbalism is dat de wicked ones are using it to do evil things like causing car accidents to attack victims, attacking victims with lightning, magic snakes, misterious fire, enslaving victims, killing victims. I give thanks to Almighty & ancestors fo protecting & savin I from attacks by de wicked through magic snakes.

if white people tell your little, innocent children on a dark winter day that a huge man who is completely dressed in crimson with a huge whip and who sees everything they do will write their names into a magical black book while he flies through the sky its part of god blessed christianity. just like drinking wine and eating pork and sitting under the tree of tamuz. but if you tell them there are people in africa who mix a few herbs to keep your spirit clean its paganism done by devils.

if white people work on the possibility of showing a realistic hologram of the god of koran over arabia to scare soldiers of the enemy or to attack their brains directly with certain methods its part of god blessed science but if you pray to god without following the church its occult.

give thanks, rastagodess. i as a white guy cant really post authentic things about african herbs (yet).

to be frank. almost 15 people in my environment suffer from certain diseases and especially cancer right now. i went to too many funerals.

i dont want to get too deep into privat life but did anyone have any experience with certain herbs and their effect regarding cancer? mangosteen, lei gong ten, marihuana, african potato...i heard all of this would be helpful.

i think this is just a wonderful list of links. so i can tell you that ive seen a few attempts to get healthier all around with (african) herbs which were quite absurd and humerous. once one guy had a little problem with spending some time with his wife you know. so to do something for his marriage he drank some so called "yohimbe tea". its made of the bark of a west african evergreen tree. i have to say he maybe did it wrong or drank too much. he said his hands were shaking, hes puked all the while and he had horrible nightmares.
i see myself as a naturalist as well, dont lose your trust in natural medicine but somtimes you have to be careful. i even know people who use shampoo made of garlic to fight hair loss.
