Seen RSK. Let i clarify iself. ini meant not to suggest that ALL gangster rap is bad, but was talkig from a more generalistic point of view. Look at the youths all over the world today, they follow 50cent, Jayz etc as idols....they want to dress like them, talk like them and live like them. they follow the lyrical content of the music religiously. How can they ever discover their true identity and purpose in life if all they dream about is being like their gangster idols? Most of the gangster rap that does have a message is not publicised much and as such its influence goes as far as only the ones who know it thus look for it. Again, not all the songs by 50cent, Jayz etc carry destructive messages, but a whole lot of them do! It is written in revelation:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rev 3:15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I would that you were cold or hot.
Rev 3:16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

I dont know if it falls in the category of "gangsta rap" but if you do get one hiphop album this year, let it be the "Untitled" album from Nas, trust i

After ini did some reasoning, i discovered that there something good that can come out from any gangster rap song....the logic is this; look under the dust to see the cleanliness beneath! If ini removes the dirt and particles, then we can see the cleanliness underneath, reason? by so doing any song will have something to teach us....either make our eyes open to something or it could feed our spirit!

To RasKebreAB: I most definitely agree with the I, Untitled is on point, definitely worth listening to!
To Ras Ranga - well there is always something to be learnt from every experience. Its how you choose to interpret the music that determines what you will learn, but that's not to say that music is not guilty of its sometimes negative influence...bless

Blessed Sis Ten
Has the i heard the album yet? its nice

There is a song on that album called Fried Chicken ?
That is hilarious to i, haha "Lord Lord Jah"
Anyway, there is one lyric on that song that i just cant get
maybe the i can help i to figure it out.
If the i has heard it,you must have noticed he mentions Rasta
He says something like ,Tomato Pasta to an italian, and "something" to a Rasta
What is that "something"?

Let i know if you can hear what he says

Blessed Love

I just saw Nas on the Colbert Report, he did a rap against FOX news telling the people how corrupt, racist, and biased the Propaganda machine FOX News is and how hypocritical Bill O Reilly is. Nas was talking about how he is not the violent one that conservatives love to blast gangsta rap for for promoting violence, instead, Nas pointed out that the weapons being brought into the ghettos are all made by Babylon and specifically brought into the hood to make promote violence. So Babylon should not blame gangsta rapper for rapping about the situation Babylon created. On the other hand, rappers should try not to promote violence and hatred. I am a fan of Nas , Illmatic is a classic album. The new CD untitled is dope too, I listened to a few songs off youtube.

Nas

The World Is Yours" (feat. Pete Rock) from Illmatic album

"It's yours!" --> [T La Rock]

[Chorus: Nas, Pete Rock]

[PR] Whose world is this?
[Nas] The world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
"It's yours!"
It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
[Nas] The world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?

I sip the Dom P, watchin Gandhi til I'm charged
Then writin in my book of rhymes, all the words pass the margin
To hold the mic I'm throbbin, mechanical movement
Understandable smooth shit that murderers move wit
The thief's theme, play me at night, they won't act right
The fiend of hip-hop has got me stuck like a crack pipe
The mind activation, react like I'm facin time like
'Pappy' Mason with pens I'm embracin
Wipe the sweat off my dome, spit the phlegm on the streets
Suede Timb's on my feets, makes my cypher, complete
Whether crusin in a six-cab, or Montero Jeep
I can't call it, the beats make me fallin asleep
I keep fallin, but never fallin six feet deep
I'm out for presidents to represent me (Say what?)
I'm out for presidents to represent me (Say what?)
I'm out for dead presidents to represent me

[Chorus: Nas, Pete Rock]

[PR] Whose world is this?
[Nas] The world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
[PR] Whose world is this?
[Nas] The world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
"It's yours!"
It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
[Nas] The world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?

To my man Ill Will, God bless your life
"It's yours!"
To my peoples throughout Queens, God bless your life
I trip we box up crazy bitches aimin guns in all my baby pictures
Beef with housin police, release scriptures that's maybe Hitler's
Yet I'm the mild, money gettin style, rollin foul
The versatile, honey stickin wild, golden child
Dwellin in the Rotten Apple, you get tackled
Or caught by the devil's lasso, shit is a hassle
There's no days, for broke days, we sell it, smoke pays
While all the old folks pray, to Je-sus' soakin they sins in trays
of holy water, odds against Nas are slaughter
Thinkin a word best describin my life, to name my daughter
My strength, my son, the star, will be my resurrection
Born in correction all the wrong shit I did, he'll lead a right direction
How ya livin large, a broker charge, cards are mediocre
You flippin coke or playin spit spades in strip poker

"It's yours!"

[Chorus: Nas, Pete Rock]

[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
[PR] Whose world is this?
[Nas] The world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
"It's yours!"
It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
[Nas] Yo, the world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
"It's yours!"
[PR] Break it down

[Pete Rock cuts and scratches "It's yours!"]

I'm the young city bandit, hold myself down singlehanded
For murder raps, I kick my thoughts alone, get remanded
Born alone, die alone, no crew to keep my crown or throne
I'm deep by sound alone, caved inside in a thousand miles from home
I need a new nigga, for this black cloud to follow
Cause while it's over me it's too dark to see tomorrow
Trying to maintain, I flip, fill the clip to the tip
Picturin my peeps, now the income make my heartbeat skip
And I'm amped up, they locked the champ up, even my brain's in handcuffs
Headed for Indiana stabbin women like the Phantom
The crew is lampin big Willie style
Check the chip toothed smile, plus I profile wild
Stash through the flock wools, burnin dollars to light my stove
Walk the blocks wit a bop, checkin Danes plus the games
people play, bust the problems of the world today

"It's yours!"

[Chorus: Nas, Pete Rock]

[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
[PR] Whose world is this?
[Nas] The world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
"It's yours!"
It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
[Nas] Yeah... the world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It's mine, it's mine, it's mine
Whose world is this?
"It's yours!"
Break it down

Yea aight?
To everybody in Queens, the foundation
"It's yours!"
The world is yours
To everybody uptown, yo, the world is yours
"It's yours!"
The world is yours
To everybody in Brooklyn
Y'all know the world is yours
"It's yours!"
The world is yours
Everbody in Mount Vernon, the world is yours
"It's yours!"
Long Island, the world is yours
"It's yours!"
Staten Island, yea the world is yours
"It's yours!"
South Bronx, the world is yours
"It's yours!"
Aight

Verse One:

Whaddup, kid? I know shit is rough doing your bid
When the cops came, you shoulda slid to my crib
Fuck it black, no time for looking back - it's done
plus congratulations, you know you got a son
I heard he looks like you, why don't your lady write you?
Told her she should visit, that's when she got hyper
flippin, talkin 'bout "He acts too rough
He didn't listen, he be riffin' while I'm telling him stuff"
I was like "Yeah", shorty don't care, she a snake too
fucking with them niggaz from that fake crew that hate you
but yo, guess who got shot in the dome-piece?
Jerome's niece, on her way home from Jones Beach, it's bugged
plus Little Rob is selling drugs on the dime
hanging out with young thugs that all carry 9's
and night time is more trife than ever
What's up wit' Cormega, did you see him, are y'all together?
if so, then hold the fort down, represent to the fullest
say whassup to Herb, Ice and Bullet
I left a half a hundred in your commissary
You was my nigga when push came to shove
One what? One love

Verse Two:

Dear Born, you'll be out soon - stay strong
out in New York, the same shit is going on
the crack-heads stalking, loud-mouths is talking
Hold, check out the story, yesterday when I was walking
the nigga you shot last year tried to appear like he hurtin' something
Word to mother, heard him fronting
and he be pumping on your block
your man gave him your Glock
and now they run together, whaddup son, whatever
since I'm on the streets, I'm a put it to a cease
but I heard you blew a nigga with an ox for the phone piece,
whylin' on the island, but now in Elmira
better chill 'cause them niggaz will put that ass on fire
last time you wrote, you said they tried you in the showers
but maintain, when you come home, the corner's ours
on the reals, all these crab niggaz know the deal
when we start the revolution, all they probably do is squeal
but chill, see you on the next V.I.
I gave your mom dukes loot for kicks
plus sent ya flicks
your brother's buck whylin' and inform Maine, he wrote me
he might beat his case, 'til he come home I play it low key
so stay civilized, time flies
though incarcerated your mind dies
I hate it when your moms cries
it kinda wants to make me murder, for real-a
I've even got a mask and gloves to bust slugs
for one love

Verse Three:

Sometimes I sit back with a budda sack
mind's in another world thinking how can we exist through the facts
written in school text books, bibles, et cetera
fuck a school lecture, the lies get me vexed-a
so I be ghost from my projects
I take my pen and pad for the week and hittin' L's while I'm sleepin'
A two day stay, you may say I needed time alone
to relax my dome, no phone, left the 9 at home
You see the streets have me stressed something terrible
fucking with the corners have a nigga up in Bellevue
or H.D.M., hit with numbers from 8 to 10
a future in a maximum state pen is grim
so I comes back home, nobody's out but Shorty Doowop
rollin' two phillies together, in the Bridge, we call them oo-wops
he said "Nas, niggaz caught me bustin' off the roof
so I wear a bullet proof and pack a black trey deuce"
He inhaled so deep, shut his eyes like he was sleep
started coughing, one eye peeked to watch me speak
I sat back like the mack, my army suit was black
We was chillin' on these benches where he pumped his loose cracks
I took the L when he passed it, this little bastard
keeps me blasted and starts talking mad shit
I had to school him, told him don't let niggaz fool him
'cause when the pistol blows, the one that's murdered be the cool one
tough luck when niggaz are struck, families fucked up
could've caught your man, but didn't look when you bucked up
mistakes happen, so take heed, never bust up
at the crowd - catch him solo, make the right man bleed
Shorty's laugh was cold blooded as he spoke so foul
only twelve, trying to tell me that he liked my style
then I rose, wiping the blunt's ash from my clothes
then froze, only to blow the herb smoke through my nose
and told my little man I'm-a ghost, I prose
Left some jewels in his skull that he can sell if he chose
Words of wisdom from Nas, try to rise up above
keep an eye out for Jake, Shorty Wop
One love

ahhh seen iyah
lol, i knew it was going to be something that would make me say "thats so obvious" once i found out. I should have thought of looking it up iself, just didnt think they would have the lyrics posted so soon.

Well,in truth he should have at least said vegetable roti, i think he was thinking more of "west indians" rather than Rasta, understandable i suppose considering the heavy presence of "west indians" in New York.

Give thanks Ark I

mmm, english has so many corrupt words, even though i dont even want to use the word "west indian", i still have to just to get my meaning across. And caribbean is not much better.
