Asthma is a dis-ease that cause the bronchi or air passages in the lungs to become inflamed, congested with mucus, and constricted, which blocks the flow of air or oxygen. Symptoms include: wheezing, tightness in chest, inability to breathe, and coughing. Usually caused by allergies and a weakened immunes system. Common triggers of Asthma include: dust, mold, mites, pets, feathers, air pollution, cigarette smoke, food additives (MSG and sulfite's), perfume, chemicals in cleaning products, and hair spray. This is not a comprehensive list, but is just the most common triggers.
People with Asthma may also have reactions to wheat, dairy, sugar, and should avoid using these products. Wheat and dairy are “gluey” and “pasty” and contributes to Mucus build up in the sinuses and lungs. Wheat can also “paste” down the small villi in the intestinal tract. Many asthmatics are allergic to dairy and will notice improvement when these products are left out of the diet. If one does use dairy the best dairy products would be those from goats, as they do not contribute to build up of mucus. Goat milk and cheese are easier to digest, and are also a great alternative to those that are lactose intolerant. Sugar and all artificial sweeteners are known to weaken the immune system. A few good alternatives to this are Natural Honey, Turbinado Sugar, pure cane sugar. Good foods to add to the Asthmatics diet include: turnips, lemons, limes, radishes, garlic, onions, cayenne pepper, and ginger; As these help to loosen mucus and open up the alveoli of the lungs.
